I was glad to see the edit made on the original article about copyrights.

As for me, I am here for the long haul. Like many others, I pray this is a step in the right direction.

Yes. Granted, it was DA's fault -- outside articles cause the panic. But good they cleared up the confusion.

I have thought of leaving so many times, and came close at least 1-2 times, but this has been my true cyber home for many years and I just couldn't do it. I am hopeful this will allow the site to stay afloat and grow, which is a positive.

I have invested so much time and effort here, unless something so dire happened that drew me away, it is doubtful I would leave.

I don't know how to feel about this. Shrug Emote  I'm not good at economics, so in my mind the phrase "selling a company" leaves a negative feeling. But I read so many enthusiastic comments about a possible better future with new features and improved site function, so I guess this could be good? :?

I love this site so incredibly much with all its faults, shortages and mistakes. So in the one way or the other I hope everything will be fine in the end. :)

Well, basically the idea of one company buying another company is a good thing. That is, if the 1st company is in financial trouble. The only other alternative is for the 1st company (meaning DA) to close. The announcement said that Wix bought DA for X number of dollars, plus $3 million dollars in assumed debt. That means that DA was/is $3 million dollars behind in their bills. It would have only been a matter of time before they would have had to file bankruptcy.  So, the fact that DA will be able to continue is a good thing.

I love this site so incredibly much with all its faults, shortages and mistakes.

I think this sums up what a lot of us "old-timers" feel. Otherwise, I think we would have left long ago.

I think most people are wary but hopeful, which I think is the best way to be.

I looked up Wix.com's Wikipedia article. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wix.com

Seems they were founded by some Israelis, and their HQ is in Tel Aviv.  According to NASDAQ, their stock took a dip this past December, but they recovered very nicely and them some.  www.nasdaq.com/symbol/wix/hist… Stock price went down a bit today, but at least they were higher than they were this past Thanksgiving.

Me, I'm cautiously optimistic.  If they feel confident enough to acquire dA, I doubt our files are going to go poof over this weekend.

You're the best, Jimmy. Getting to all the nitty-gritty business. I remember when Wix first came on the scene. I checked it out and it was only so-so. Now, a few years later, it's huge, and the sites/interfaces are very impressive. My father runs a store through them and he's extremely happy. He and his wife being not-so-tech-savvy on top of it. So, they have a good development team, and they are strong enough to run  quite a few TV spots, which aren't cheap.

I think this is a good step in the right direction. I mean, at the very least, it will mean there will be money available to help improve things, and that always helps a company.

I'm sure a few years ago I would be extremely nervous about this, but now I don't really care. dA has been going downhill over the last few years and I stick around more out of habit and old friends than the website itself. I've got to the point where I feel it can't get any worse, and if it goes in a direction I don't like, maybe I just call it a day.

It has been a long time since I felt the staff at dA were in it for the community, instead having to focus on what is best for the business (for the most part, out of necessity). Awesome features would only be half finished (just look at groups) and terrible features (such as portfolios) would be thrust upon us in a bid to bring in much needed cash. This could potentially free them from this to build the features they want to build, with added money and man power. Equally it could just be a set of handcuffs which restrict what they can do and the direction they go in - only time will tell.

All in all, I think it will probably be too little too late. I'm doubtful that any amount of shiny new features or community effort will ever re-kindle the passion I once had for this site, and it certainly won't bring users back from the dead. If it helps - great. If it doesn't - oh well. I'm not sure the emote community can really get any lower than it already is.

I actually agree. I don't think the site will every, even remotely, go back to the way it was. Too much bad blood. Too many of the strong community members have gone. It's a skeleton of what it was. However, like you, I think many of us stick around because of nostalgia, and the fact that we still have friends here. There are a few people I simply don't talk to anywhere else, so I remain here. But, my activity is minimal, and even if things get better, I can't imagine it will go back to the way it was years ago. Yes, "too little, too late," but it will be interesting to see what happens, nonetheless.

I agree, this was a long time coming. We'll just have to wait and see, but what I hope for is a dA that listens to the community and focuses more on that and the art than just viewing us all as potential dollar signs. I know that dA is a business and keeping the site up has to be a priority, but there needs to be a balance.

I'd never heard of Wix before so I don't know what to expect, but I'm trying to think positive. dA is my main site so I'll be keeping my fingers crossed that good things are coming!

That's my attitude. I'm not surprise about this, or overly-confident. But I am pessimistically hopeful, if that makes sense. I don't ever see the site going back to the way it was, but on the other hand, if it gets a bit better than it is now, that will be a positive.

I think you and I are on the same page that we still love to post the little bit of art we do, and to see the friends we can only see on DA. If the site keeps going just for that, it will be a positive.

Oh yeah, I completely understand the concept of 'pessimistically hopeful' XD It's an emotion I experience quite often, and it's hard to explain to those who don't get it.

All of that said, this is something I saw coming for a long time. DA has been sinking financially for years. First mass layoffs, then limited updates and enhancements. My only surprise is that this didn't come earlier.

That said, I think this is a good thing. I mean, what is the other alternative? If the site didn't have money, it would close. At least Wix is a strong company, so I hear. While I don't use them (I have my own web-space), I know quite a few people who have sites with them and are very happy. They are supposedly very easy to use, and look great. If they port some of that over to DA, that would be a good thing.

Nevertheless, as with all things, it will be a "wait and see" thing. I do love DA and would love it to keep going. I'm not sure if this will bring the site back to its heyday, but it's at least a step in the right direction.

Lots of misinformation going around, so before anyone panics, DA will NOT be giving away your art as stock
